UPDATE: 11/22/2021 2:00 AM

Early Monday morning, the city of Waukesha confirmed that 5 people have died, and the number injured is more than 40. The person of interest that the police had been seeking is in custody, but no word if this person was the driver.

On Sunday evening, a red SUV drove into a Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee, leaving multiple people injured.

A live video feed of the parade from the city showed a vehicle breaking through barriers and speeding into the roadway where the parade was taking place. Police chief Dan Thompson said the vehicle struck more than 20 individuals, including some children, and that there were some fatalities, but they are not releasing information while they work to notify families. A police officer responding on scene discharged his service weapon at the vehicle in an attempt to stop it, no bystanders were harmed. The vehicle used appears to have been located, and the police have one person of interest at this time.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers tweeted his praise to first responders acting quickly in the situation and he and his wife are praying for all affected.
